Paul Ross sent me an email about his new fun SMS text service called Pretend a Friend. It's brilliant! It's such a simple idea and an ideal candidate for a 'Beep, Beep' feature.
In a Nut Shell
An SMS text message of your choosing is sent to your mobile phone by a fake contact, at a time of your choosing. Not only can you use it to show off to your mates, it can get you out of crap dates and boring meetings.
You can either use the web site to schedule a message, or your mobile phone for when you're out and about.
The Web Based Version
First, add a new contact to your mobile phone address book.
Example : (Name) sexysarah (Number) 60040
Second, register for free at pretendafriend.co.uk
Type in the an SMS text message of your choosing (you also choose date and time to you want the message send)
Example: You were great last night, let's do it again tomorrow. Mind if I bring a close girlfriend? xxx sarah
Now sitting in a pub with your buddies, the message is sent to your mobile phone at the specified time. Because you have added the contact it appears to be a message from someone called sexysarah.
Great fun! Brag away :)
You can also activate the service at anytime using your mobile phone. You simply send an SMS text to 60300.
The Mobile Version
Sending sexysarah dyn 20 You were great last night, let's do it again tomorrow. Mind if I bring a close girlfriend? xxx sarah to 60300 will have the message sent you 20 minutes later.
Clever stuff huh?
Paul has also created a catalogue of ready-made SMS text messages that you can have sent to your mobile phone while you're out and about. The catalogue (each with an seperate activation code) includes a bunch of 'Last Night' and 'Excuses'.
"The other night was the best night of my life. Lets do it again"
"Someone has crashed into your car better get here as soon as"
Again you can specify the friend name and the time the message should be sent to your phone. ie in 10 minutes, 20 minutes etc
Another thing that makes Paul's new, fun SMS text service stand out is the cost. This isn't a subscription service and messages sent to your mobile phone are only charged at 50p each. That's dead cheap in comparison to most fun SMS text services.
