Paul Ross sent me an email about his new fun SMS text service called Pretend a Friend. It's brilliant! It's such a simple idea and an ideal candidate for a 'Beep, Beep' feature.

In a Nut Shell

An SMS text message of your choosing is sent to your mobile phone by a fake contact, at a time of your choosing. Not only can you use it to show off to your mates, it can get you out of crap dates and boring meetings.

While money can't buy you love, it seems that "love" SMS texts can cost you an arm and a leg. mouseprint.org, the site that exposes the strings and catches in advertising fine print, spotted a premium rate SMS text services that's not entirely clear on pricing...

Young people today “text” each other (send text messages from their cellphones) and use various premium text messaging services advertised on television.

One such service invites viewers to text the word LOVE to 66466 (that five digit phone number is known as a shortcode).  After doing so, the caller will receive text messages back that will “spice up your love life”, help you “discover the secrets of love”, and “how to be a great kisser.”
