txtNation Powers Leading Wine Brands Picture Campaign

txtNation have announced that they'll be working with Blossom Hill to help launch their two new and exciting mobile phone competitions.

Pulse Group, who are promoting the Blossom Hill wine promotions are using the mobile solutions provider txtNation and have created a mobile marketing campaign to offer summer wine drinkers the possibility to win their own garden party throughout summer 2008. 2.35 million bottles have been dispatched with the competition promoted on pack to all the leading supermarket chains.

The competition began back in June as part of the build up to the tennis tournament at Wimbledon, where Blossom Hill were the official wine supplier to The Championships.

There will be 10 weekly prize draws where one lucky person will win one of the Garden Party prizes each week. The text to win competition is running until the end of August 2008 allowing 2 months for consumers to enter as does the On trade mobile picture competition.

1,000 pubs in the UK will be running the mms service for this competition and will have posters, coasters, fridge vinyl with entry information along with a supporting point of sale visibility kit for the activity.

Consumers are to take photos of themselves enjoying Blossom Hill wine with friends to be able to enter into the prize draw where people will win one of the 10 Garden party kit prizes within their local pub.

Users simply take a photo of themselves and send it in with the word 'SUMMER' to 60999. For the other competition they simply text in their name, address and D.O.B along with the word Blossom to 60999 for the chance to win fantastic prizes.

Blossom Hill purchased txtNation mFUSION and mBILL solutions, and txtNation has created the website that Blossom Hill is using to host the picture competition.

The Potential and Pitfalls of Mobile Marketing

Mobile marketing campaigns can be expensive, and if handled improperly it can backfire. Though still primarily used by large corporations, mobile marketing is increasingly attracting interest from small e-tailers and retailers, said Neil Strother, analyst for Jupiter Research. "The mobile phone is a very personal device. People take it with them everywhere they go — especially people 35 and under. So you can easily develop a one-to-one relationship with your customers through their mobile phones." Messages sent to a mobile phone are much more likely to be read than e-mail sent to a PC, which may get routed to a spam folder, Strother adds.

New SMS Text Messaging solution for Webmasters

Major milestone for Free SMS Text Service

Mobile Advertising Attitudes Report

Mobile advertising must match specific audience requirements, as responsiveness to different kinds of advertising changes according to age and gender, according to a study by mobile media publisher MoMac (UK).

Some findings from the study:

  • Some 13% of 16-24-year-olds have already responded to or clicked on a mobile ad.
  • When it comes to mobile advertising formats, there are clear differences in the preferences of men and women and the different demographic groups.
  • When on mobile sites, text-based advertising links are the most popular (56%); there’s a clear female bias of 60%, compared with just 47% of men.
  • Picture or banner-based advertising is the second most popular option, favored by 29% overall and just under one in three 25-34-year-olds.
  • Video-based advertising has a strong male bias with 22% of men compared with just 12% of women saying they would be most likely to respond to a video ad.
  • Video formats were also more popular with younger mobile users; video was selected by 23% of 16-24-year-olds but only 12% of those over 55.

Content providers will need to consider a number of payment models to appeal to the diverse groups of mobile users in the UK looking for content, MoMac said:

  • The ad-funded model could become dominant with younger mobile users, with 47% of 16-24-year-olds preferring to access content for free in exchange for viewing advertising.
  • Only 32% of this group opted for a pay-as-you-download (PAYD) model, and only 3.9% stated they would want to pay for content via a subscription.
  • The PAYD method is more popular with older mobile users, with 55% of those age 45 or over opting to pay for content on demand.
  • PAYD also appeals more to women, with 54% selecting the method compared with 41% of men, who tend to be more open to advertising.
